The Amsterdam Hastings

The Museum is ideally sited in the middle of the shoreline "maritime park"™, and has been visited by over a million people, including numerous school groups, since it opened in 1986. The entire museum is on one level and is an accessible venue for the disabled.

In 1989 it received a Museum of the Year Award; in 1997 it was visited by H. M. The Queen, and in 2003 by the then Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon John Prescott MP. The museum tells the fascinating stories of the shipwrecks which have been discovered around the area and has many artefacts from them on display.

The museum also explores the remarkable geological and environmental circumstances that have helped to preserve the wrecks.

The stories of ships are international: particularly involving Dutch, French, German, Danish and British history, so visitors from abroad are particularly welcome.

The Shipwreck Museum is a unique museum linked ot a maritime park, and has helpful, friendly staff and an excellent gift shop that is also well worth a visit.

ClownfishHastings Blue Reef Aquarium is a great place for visitors of all ages to find out more about the wonders of the deep - whatever the weather!

Whether you‘re dodging the showers or escaping the heat, Blue Reef’s innovative displays, fun talks and entertaining feeding demonstrations are sure to keep the family fully entertained.

From the hidden world of UK waters, Blue Reef transports visitors to the spectacular ‘underwater gardens’ of the Mediterranean and the stunning beauty of tropical waters - home to everything from jellyfish and seahorses to living corals and moray eels.

The centrepiece of the aquarium is the spectacular coral reef housed within a gigantic ocean display with its underwater walkthrough tunnel.

The reef is home to exotic species including blacktip reef sharks, stingrays, puffer fish and hundreds of dazzlingly beautiful fish that use the reef like a bustling undersea city.

Enjoy the closest of undersea encounters in a 15-metre long underwater walk-through tunnel through the reef, from inside a glass cavern and via bubble-helmet viewing points.

More than 40 other naturally-themed displays reveal the sheer variety of life in the deep from crabs and lobsters to the amazing octopus and the fascinating archerfish.

Don’t miss the new Remarkable Reptiles feature where you can come face to face with everything from poison arrow frogs and turtles to boa constrictors and bearded dragons.

With talks and feeding demonstrations taking place every half hour throughout the day there’s always plenty to see and do. Visit the website for details of special events and activities throughout the summer.
